Precies een jaar geleden verscheen mijn vijftiende boek:
‘Zoeken – naar mijn moeders moeder die verdween in het verzet’.
Ik ben zo trots als een bloeiende duinroos dat je nu ook de Engelse vertaling daarvan kunt lezen:
‘Searching – for my mother’s mother who disappeared in the Dutch resistance.’
Mijn zus, die het grootste deel van haar leven al in Amerika woont, vertaalde het in een maand tijd, een geweldige prestatie! Sandra de Bruijn gaf het vorm en Esther van der Ham van Droomvallei gaf het uit, net als de Nederlandse versie. En je kunt ‘m gewoon bestellen via het boekwinkeltje op mijn website, of via je eigen boekhandel.
Waarom Zoeken
Het leuke is dat er nu opeens allemaal mensen blijken te zijn die weliswaar alleen Engels begrijpen maar wel graag meer willen weten over het radicaal socialistische verzet in de Tweede Wereldoorlog, waar mijn grootmoeder bij betrokken was. En voor veel mensen blijkt heel herkenbaar te zijn dat de oorlog generaties lang doordruppelt. In het leven van mijn moeder bijvoorbeeld, en daardoor ook in mijn eigen leven. In ‘Zoeken’ probeer ik erachter te komen hoe de oorlog levens tekent, vertekent en inspireert.

Exactly one year ago my fifteenth book was published: ‘Zoeken’. I am proud as a… a… a very proud being, to introduce to you the English translation: ‘Searching – for my mother’s mother who disappeared in the Dutch resistance.’
My amazing sister, who has lived in the US for the best part of her life, translated the whole book within a month time, which is an unbelievable accomplishment. Sandra de Bruijn did the lay-out, Eshter van der Ham of Droomvallei published it, just like the Dutch version. You can order ‘Searching’ easily through the little bookstore on my website and I’ll send it to you, even if you live far, far away – just add five euro to the price if you live outside Europe. If you’d like your copy signed, I’ll be happy to do that for you too.
Why Searching
The existence of the English version of my book suddenly reveals that there are people who cannot read in Dutch, but would like to know more about the issues the book is about. Radical socialist resistance in Holland during WW2, that my grandmother was involved in. And a lot of people turn out to experience in their own lives how the war pops up in us, next generations. For instance in the life of my mom, and because of that in mine too. In ‘Searching’ I try to find out how the war marks, disturbs and inspires lives.
